ROTARY INTERNATIONAL: NEW GENERATIONS - Informativo de Fevereiro de 2010

NEW GENERATIONS

INTERACT - ROTARACT- RYLA

February 2010

World Understanding Month

During World Understanding Month in February, Rotary and its New Generations are encouraged to reach across borders and cultures in the name of service and fellowship. It's also when Rotary celebrates its anniversary on 23 February, marking a special achievement toward the building of peace and goodwill around the world.

How will your Interact club, Rotaract club, or RYLA program celebrate World Understanding Month and Rotary's anniversary? Consider these ideas:

  • Host an international festival to increase your school's or community's awareness of different cultures.
  • Conduct a service project during your next local RYLA program.
  • Develop a pen-pal relationship with an Interact or Rotaract club overseas.
  • Collect money or supplies to send to needy people in a nearby country.
  • Have club members volunteer for an international celebration or cause.
  • Ask a local Youth Exchange student to speak to your club or participate in your local RYLA program.

World Rotaract Week: 8-14 March 2010

Don't miss the chance to observe World Rotaract Week! Rotaract will celebrate its 42nd anniversary the week of 8-14 March. Rotaract clubs around the world are encouraged to partner with their sponsor Rotary clubs to commemorate the founding of the first Rotaract club on 13 March 1968. Rotaractors can increase community awareness of the program by

  • Making a presentation to a Rotary club that does not yet sponsor a Rotaract club
  • Inviting Rotarians to attend a Rotaract club meeting
  • Encouraging Rotaractors to attend a Rotary club meeting
  • Conducting a joint Rotaract and Rotary club project

So join the celebration, and tell the world about Rotaract!

Rotaract clubs and their sponsoring Rotary clubs that submit a celebration recognition form will receive a signed letter from President John Kenny and a commemorative pin. The deadline for submissions is 15 April.

2010-11 RI Theme: Building Communities - Bridging Continents

Building Communities - Bridging Continents logo

RI President-elect Ray Klinginsmith announced the 2010-11 RI theme, Building Communities - Bridging Continents, during the 2010 International Assembly.

Klinginsmith, who was the first student from his small town of Unionville, Missouri, USA, to study abroad as a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar, said the theme fulfills two objectives - "the first to explain Rotary to non-Rotarians, and the second to validate our work for Rotarians" -and embodies "what we do best."

2010 International RYLA application deadline extended to 15 March

The deadline to apply for the 2010 International RYLA has been extended to 15 March. The International RYLA is an advanced leadership training event where young adults participate in discussions and activities related to issues of international interest, such as peace and conflict resolution and clean water scarcity. Aside from joining in the group discussions and training exercises, attendees will be able to network with other exceptional young leaders from around the world. This special event will be held 17-20 June in Montréal, Québec, Canada, immediately before the 2010 RI Convention.

Though the first deadline to apply passed on 15 December, applications are still being considered on a rolling basis, space permitting. Eligible participants are between the ages of 18 and 30, have extensive experience with any Rotary youth or educational program, and are not Rotarians. We strongly recommend that interested candidates submit an application with all required signatures as soon as possible, but no later than 15 March. Apply now!
